Religion takes pride in its spiritual strength, but when faced with science, can faith truly hold its ground? Catholicism—with its miracles, doctrines, and legendary tales—has been the spiritual foundation for billions. But under the scrutiny of logic, can these beliefs withstand the test of reason?

Catholicism: Absurdity and Contradiction

📢 This article is a critical analysis meant to encourage logical thinking about faith and science. It is not intended to attack or deny anyone’s personal beliefs.

1. THE CREATION STORY – WHEN MYTH CLASHES WITH SCIENCE

Adam was formed from dust, Eve was taken from his rib—a story millions believe without question. But from a scientific perspective, how does it hold up?

  • Evolutionary theory asserts that humans did not appear suddenly but are the result of millions of years of natural selection.
  • Genetics refutes the possibility that all of humanity originated from a single pair without severe inbreeding issues.

So why does this story persist? Because it is a metaphor, not a fact. Even some Catholic scholars today no longer defend the literal truth of Genesis. Instead, they interpret it as symbolic.

This highlights the conflict between science and religion, a debate not only between atheists and believers but also within modern faith communities themselves.

2. MIRACLES – IDEALIZED EMOTIONAL RESPONSES?

Catholicism thrives on miracles. Jesus walking on water, turning water into wine, healing the blind—these are cornerstones of faith. But if we set emotions aside and assess them rationally, what remains?

  • There is no scientific evidence that the laws of physics can be bent in such ways.
  • Many miracles can be explained through psychological phenomena, hallucinations, or misunderstandings.

And yet, miracles endure because they appeal to human emotions. A desperate person will easily believe in a miracle, even without any proof.

Take the wildfires in the U.S. in 2025. Firefighters exhausted themselves battling the flames, rescue teams risked their lives evacuating people. But when the fire was over, survivors exclaimed: “Thank God for protecting me!”

How ironic—if God truly protected them, then did He abandon those who perished? If a divine force had the power to stop the disaster, why didn’t it intervene from the start?

Humans tend to attribute good outcomes to God while blaming disasters on nature or calling them “God’s mysterious will.” This is how miracles function—selective belief in what one wishes to see.

3. RELIGION VS. SCIENCE – A NEVER-ENDING BATTLE

From Galileo’s trial to the debate over evolution, the conflict between science and religion has a long and tumultuous history.

  • Galileo proved that the Earth orbits the Sun and was condemned by the Church. Only centuries later did the Vatican acknowledge he was right.
  • Darwin introduced the theory of evolution, facing fierce opposition from religious groups. Today, most of the Church reluctantly accepts evolution as fact.

These events raise a crucial question: If religion is always slow to accept reality, why is it still considered a reliable source of knowledge?

Science can be wrong, but when it is, it corrects itself. Religion, on the other hand, resists until it has no choice but to concede.

4. CAN ONE BELIEVE IN BOTH GOD AND SCIENCE?

Many today claim they can embrace both faith and science. But in reality, this balance only exists if religion abandons some of its core beliefs.

  • If we accept evolution, we must reject the Adam and Eve narrative.
  • If we trust astronomy, we must acknowledge that the universe wasn’t created in six days.
  • If we rely on medicine, we must understand that diseases are not “divine punishment.”

This shows that science and God cannot truly coexist without compromise. Those who believe in both aren’t harmonizing religion with science—they’re adapting religion to fit an increasingly rational world.

Like all religions, Catholicism thrives on faith—something that requires no evidence. But when confronted with science, which demands proof, that faith faces serious challenges.

Science and God cannot walk hand in hand without concessions. One constantly updates itself with new discoveries, while the other clings to ancient, unverifiable truths.

So, the ultimate choice is not about whether to believe or not—it is about what to believe in: a system that evolves with knowledge, or one that remains stagnant in the face of undeniable reality?
